April Nieves was born and raised in Boston, MA. Currently residing in Jersey City, NJ. She began tap dancing at the age of five at The Dance Shop in Holbrook, MA. Throughout high school and college April studied tap, jazz, ballet, step and hip hop. She was part of UCONN Tap Team from 2004-2008. In the summer of 2008 April became a member of The Boston Tap Company under the direction of Sean C Fielder. April was asked to be a part of Subject: Matter in 2013. She has been dancing and enjoying her growth since this collaboration of amazing tap dancers combined by the mastermind Ian Berg. She co-founded Listen to My Sole, a Boston based Tap Jam in the fall of 2015 with fellow Company member, Benae Beamon. Tap dancing has been the sole consistent passion her whole life. She is truly blessed by this musical dance form which continuously brings her motivation, strength, and happiness. Her inspirations include, but aren’t limited to Gregory Hines, Dianne Walker, Jimmy Slyde, and those beautiful people who continue to share her space on the wood. Everyday she is inspired by all that is around her. She enjoys creating music and transcending her spirit to the audience through her movement and sound.
